The Second Visual Informatics International Seminar 2014
IVI is glad to welcome you to take part in the Second Visual Informatics International Seminar 2014 (VIIS’14). This seminar is organised after the success of the first seminar in 2012. VIIS’14 is hosted by MYREN or the Malaysian Research Education Network together with the Visual Informatics Working Group of MYREN. Invited speakers are three experts from visual informatics areas: Professor Dr Pong Ting Chuen from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong; Professor Dr Arif Djunaidy from Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia and Associate Professor Dr M. Iabal Saripan from Universti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. This seminar will be held in conjunction with the 7th MYREN Conference in Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur 55100, Malaysia, from Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 8:30 AM to Thursday, November 27, 2014 at 6:00 PM. Participants are invited to submit papers to the seminar and the papers presentation will be held separately in UKM, Wednesday, on December 10, 2014 from 0900 to 5:00PM.

Prof. Ir. Arif Djunaidy, M.Sc., Ph.D., MIEEE, MAC
Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)
Professor Arif received his PhD in Computer Science from University of Manchester, England, UK in 1992. In 1986, he joined The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology where he is currently the Assistant Rector I of Academic Affair. He has served as head of the Department of Technical Information and from 2001-2007 he was elected the Dean of Faculty of Information Technology. Some of his research interest include : Data Management, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Data Mining and Soft Computing.
Prof. Madya Dr. M. Iqbal Saripan
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
M Iqbal Saripan is a member of Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) Group, Academy Science of Malaysia. He is also the recipient of the 2013 Malaysian Young Scientist Award and the 2012 Young Outstanding Malaysian Award. He received his PhD from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, in the area of digital image processing (nuclear medical image acquisition). He is currently an Associate Professor and the Deputy Dean (Postgraduates Studies), Faculty of Engineering at University Putra Malaysia. In 2013 Elsevier awarded him as the Most Valued Reviewer for Radiation Physic and Chemistry Journal. In Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malaysia, he was the chair of IEEE GOLD chapter in 2010-2011 (now known as Young Professional – YP), vice chair for IEEE Signal Processing in 2014 and executive committee member of IEEE Malaysia section 2011. To date, he has published more than 80 international journal papers including those in flagship journal of his area, e.g. IEEE Transaction on Nuclear Science, IEEE Transaction on Biomedical Engineering, Nuclear Instruments and Methods, and Radiation Physic and Chemistry.
Prof. Pong Ting Chuen
Hong Kong University of Science & Technology
Professor Pong received his PhD in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1984. In 1991,he joined the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, where he is currently a Professor in Computer Science. He has served as Associate Dean of Engineering from 1999-2002 and Director of Sino Software Research Institute at HKUST from 1995-2000. Before joining HKUST, he was an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. Pong was recipient of the HKUST Excellence in Teaching Innovation Award 2001. Some of his research interest include: Computer Vision and Image Processing; Artificial Intelligence; Pattern Recognition; Image and Video Databases; and Distance Learning
