Objectives of the project entail competence in a number of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning application domains, such as Information Retrieval, Question Answering, Sentiment Analysis, Machine Translation, Knowledge Representation, Query Languages, Case Based Reasoning and Decision Making. PIs of the collaborating institutions hold several years of expertise in the above-mentioned application domains and the project can cumulatively benefit from the same. In particular, the former four are the key strengths of host PI whereas the latter four constitute key strengths of the Malaysian counterpart. Thus, the International collaboration of research frameworks can account for expertise imbalance, if any. Previously, the host PI has worked as a research fellow in following research projects (i) Development of Cross-Lingual Information Access (CLIA) Phase II (ii) Answer Validation through Textual Entailment (iii) Detection and measurement of event similarity using temporal and linguistic information (iv) Causal Extraction from Text, and (v) Textual Entailment, Semantic Text Similarity and (Math & Text) Information Retrieval System, and has published considerable number of research articles on the concerned topics. Moreover, the host PI research team has shown active participation in the following renowned evaluation research tracks (i) Text Analysis and Conference (TAC) (ii) NII Testbeds and Community for Information Access Research (NTCIR) (iii) Forum for Information Retrieval Evaluation (FIRE) (iv) Conference and Labs of the Evaluation Forum (CLEF) (v) International Conference on Natural Language Processing (ICON) and (v) Evaluation of NLP and Speech Tools for Italian (EVALITA), and has emerged among top-ranked teams in majority of the track editions.  Semantics, Knowledge representation, Ontology, Information retrieval, Decision making and Knowledge engineering are key research interests of the Malaysian PI which are also suitable to the project under concern.
