Research: Affective Computing in use in Enhancing Computer Games Experience. Gesture Tracking for Games Interfaces

From 2009 to 2013 I was Senior Tutor in the School. Prior to that up to July 2009 I was Director of the IT Institute in the School, this began in September 2005, before which I was the Director of Computer Science and IT Division at the Malaysia Campus of the University of Nottingham. In that role I was involved in setting up the activities of the School there along with the activities of what has become the Engineering Faculty on that campus. I first joined the University in 1983 in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and spent a period from 1989 to 1998 working in the Philippines. I rejoined the University in 1999 to join the team that established the Malaysia Campus. My current duties include being course director of Computer Science and Entrepreneurship. My research is now developing in the use of computer games in education. In particular I am interested in ways of adding a fun resource to those subjects which have not had much attention in the past. Another aspect of this has been the use of computer games in the treatment of mental illness in children. I also have interest in many aspects of Web adaptation and have some remaining interest in image processing problems. I am a member of the Learning Sciences Research Institute LSRI which is a collaboration between people in Computer Science, Education and Psychology with some input from other schools.
