Leading Digital Technology Across Industrial Revolution

Modeling & Simulation Lab

IVI Simulation and Visualisation Lab contains an immersive 3D simulation, EON Icube ™ system and EON Virtual Reality Platform. The system and platform enable development of 3D modelling for research, teaching, and learning purposes.

EON Icube can also be used to create bespoke simulations for the training purposes. One example of such simulations is a virtual reality content for cataract surgery training, which is the current research conducted under IIR4.0 Simulation and Visualisation Lab. Industries can benefit from virtual reality training through cost-savings, accuracy in measuring training effectiveness and the ability to continually improve the training materials. Icube may also be used to test the user experience of design products. Aerospace industry can make use Icube to test new cockpit or cabin designs for airplanes and airships.

The lab housed 10 units of robotic programming learning kit, PETS. The robot is a cube made of plywood with two wheels on its sides and has nine slots on top. In order to program the robot to move, children have to fill the slot with instructions blocks. Each block can tell the robot to move either forward, backward, or make a turn. The kit was developed by TheDesignium Inc (http://www.thedesignium.com/) and produced by Our Kids Inc. (http://4ok.jp/)

The lab also provides 3D printing facility which can be used to make three-dimensional objects for rapid prototyping. It is particularly useful for research in physical and ubiquitous computing and the design of Internet of Things prototypes at IIR4.0.

Icube is available for rent at a competitive price:

  • Cost for non-UKM staff : RM550 per hour
  • Cost for UKM staff : RM450 per hour
