SmartBin

Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Nazir Ahmad (also known as Dr. Mnazir) has been working on SmartBin innovation for waste management domain. The initial SmartBin is a collaborative work between UKM, Majlis Perbandaran Kemaman (MPK) and industrial partners. The IVI director, Professor Dato’ Dr Halimah Badioze Zaman has also recommended this research: “the system is relevant in supporting the research in smart city initiatives”. Further details on SmartBin is available at Mega Utusan Malaysia (10 September 2018). Dr Mnazir has also won a silver medal in the recent Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE 2018) based on this work. The SmartBin version at MPK also won Terengganu State Award on Innovation in 2018. In future, the SmartBin will be expanded to explore more innovation to support sustainable environment in the aspects of sociotechnical impact on environmental issues through continuous development of related innovative ICT solutions for supporting waste management domain.
